Coastal Italia, an Amalfi Coast–Inspired Stationery Editorial

Some projects begin with a palette.
This one began with a place.

For this Coastal Italia editorial, the design story was shaped by the architecture and movement of the Amalfi Coast setting itself. Soft stone curves, arched doorways, sculptural chairs, and the quiet rhythm of the space became the blueprint for the paper. Rather than pulling directly from the sea, the stationery leaned into how the venue moves and holds form, translating that language into print.

Amalfi Coast–inspired wedding invitation suite with shoreline die cut, placid blue envelopes, Sofia yellow striped liner, and modern editorial typography styled with florals.

Designing with the Coast in Mind

The foundation of the suite was a shoreline-inspired die cut, created to echo the natural, irregular curves of the Amalfi Coast and Allegretto Vineyard Resort Italian-inspired courtyard. That shape appears first in the save-the-date, then carries through the signature invitation suite and into large-scale signage. The intent was continuity. Every piece needed to feel like it belonged in the space, The No. 10 vertical invitation format allowed the typography to breathe while emphasizing height and structure. Clean, modern editorial typography was paired with generous negative space, letting form do the heavy lifting. Supporting detail cards followed the same visual rhythm, keeping the suite cohesive without feeling repetitive.

When paper mirrors architecture, the design feels effortless.

Here’s a look behind the scenes, documenting the design process from paper details to on-site installation.

The chairs became an unexpected design anchor. Their woven texture and softly curved silhouettes echoed the same movement found in the paper, reinforcing the idea that shape would lead the entire story. Set within the Italian-inspired courtyard, they brought warmth and ease to the space, balancing structure with softness. That same balance guided the stationery, where clean typography and crisp paper were paired with organic forms to create something that felt both intentional and inviting.

Together, the chairs, paper, and surrounding architecture worked in quiet harmony, each element strengthening the next without competing for attention.

Color, Texture, and Subtle Contrast

The color palette was intentionally restrained, led by soft blues and warm neutrals that echoed the sun-washed stone and coastal light of the venue. Coastal blue envelopes grounded the suite, paired with a yellow striped envelope liner inspired by Avenue 12’s Sofia Yellow Stripe Scalloped Sofa. The subtle warmth of the stripe added movement and texture, referencing relaxed European interiors and the easy rhythm of the space.

Paper texture stayed crisp and clean, allowing the shapes and typography to remain the focus. Every choice was made with balance in mind. Nothing loud. Nothing unnecessary. Each detail was intentional, designed to give guests a subtle glimpse of what the wedding day would feel like before they ever arrived. From the paper goods to the lounge moments, signature cocktails, and florals, every element worked together to create a cohesive, thoughtfully branded wedding experience.

Paper That Scales with the Space

Signage was designed as a natural extension of the invitation suite. The same shoreline die cut reappeared at scale for the welcome and bar signage, paired with a custom couple monogram cut-out. These larger pieces were meant to feel architectural themselves, standing confidently within the space while remaining unmistakably tied to the paper story.

The repetition of form across small and large moments created visual consistency throughout the editorial. Guests may not notice it consciously, but they feel it.

Notice the cohesiveness of how the day came together, capturing how the paper lived alongside florals, furniture, and the architecture of the space.

A Featured Editorial Moment

This Amalfi Coast stationery and signage editorial was featured in California Wedding Day, a moment I’m incredibly proud of. Seeing the paper story live so seamlessly within the venue, and then shared beyond it, felt like a true reflection of what thoughtful design can do.

I shared an overview of the day on Instagram, capturing how the paper lived alongside florals, furniture, and the setting itself, brought to life by an incredible creative team.

Projects like this are a reminder of what happens when design is approached holistically, with every detail considered as part of a larger story. For me, it meant stepping in as a thoughtful part of the design team, considering how custom stationery and signage could support the space, the setting, and the overall experience of the day.

Set in Paso Robles wine country, the venue offers something rare. It feels like a destination without leaving California. An Italian-inspired courtyard that allows guests to feel transported, as if they are somewhere along the coast, while still rooted in the character of the town. The stationery was designed to hold that balance. To reflect the ease of the coast, the warmth of Italy, and the sense of arrival that makes a destination wedding feel unforgettable.

When place leads and paper listens, the result feels timeless.
